The system

Victron at the heart of the design.

This whole-home backup installation combines a Victron Energy MultiPlus-II 48/10000 inverter/charger with three Fogstar 16.1 kWh battery modules on a single control base, providing 48.3 kWh of nominal storage.

The MultiPlus-II is rated at 10 kVA, with 8 kW continuous inverter output at 25°C. The system brings battery storage, power conversion and the home’s electrical supply together, with controls and monitoring available at the installation.

Available backup power and running time depend on the connected loads, battery charge and system settings. Capacity and operating priorities need to be considered together.

A practical design decision

A route back to the grid when the inverter needs attention.

When a home’s supply passes through an inverter, a fault or maintenance requirement can affect the property even while the grid is available. The design therefore includes a clearly labelled manual bypass.

This allows the homeowner to return the house to the incoming grid supply if the inverter needs attention, using the designated changeover arrangement. It reduces reliance on the inverter being operational while service or repair is arranged.

The bypass depends on an available grid supply; battery backup provides the separate function of supplying the home during a mains outage, within the system’s operating limits.

The experience behind the work

Victron knowledge, shared with other installers.

SES founder Thomas Howe has extensive experience with Victron-based power systems and has trained other installers on their use. His background combines around 35 years in electrical work with more than 15 years in renewable energy systems.

For this project, SES provided design, supply and commissioning, bringing that experience to the complete system and its practical operating arrangements.
